Betsey Johnson Brings Her Usual Flair to Fashion Week

Betsey Johnson doing cartwheel on the runday

Every fashionista knows no fashion week would be complete without the 69-year-old cartwheeling design wonder that is Betsey Johnson – and this past Monday’s runway show certainly did not disappoint. Because we were so busy playing with hats over here at Yak, we weren’t able to make it to the show, but we couldn’t help smiling when we watched a few of the clips on YouTube.

In case you missed it – Betsey entertained fans (including singer Nicki Minaj who sat in the front row) with her signature strut down the runway, and then added a little bit of extra spice with a split at the end. She also asked her models to bring balloons out onto the runway for the final walk, and encouraged them to smile – a breath of fresh air in the tight lipped catwalk world.

As usual Johnson’s fashions pushed the boundaries of runway “appropriateness” with skin tight skull corsets and leopard print bras peeking through see-through shirts. But fashion fans have come to expect nothing less from Johnson, who last season had her “real size” store employees walk the runway instead of models.

While here at Yak we’re not sure we’d actually want to wear any of Johnson’s wild outfits, it was certainly a blast to watch clips of her show – and based on her runway rep, we can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!
